'Project Runway' designers find success in couture wedding dresses
Fellow "Project Runway: All Star" Austin Scarlett has several bridal collections to his credit, his for Kenneth Pool. Austin Scarlett became head designer for Pool's luxury gown collection shortly after leaving season one of "Project Runway" and continued working there until 2009 when he decided to focus on his own line of red carpet fantasy gowns. A slideshow of Austin Scarlett's over the top luxurious wedding dresses can be seen here.
Carol Hannah Whitfield of the sixth season of the show has found a great deal of success in the bridal market. She shows annually at Couture: New York Bridal Fashion Week along with Heidi Elnora, who since her time on "Project Runway," has gone on to open her own line of bridal boutiques in the south cheap michael kors handbags (http://www.michaelkorshandbagscheapoutlet.com). Heidi Elnora's "Keep Calm" collection debuted last year at Couture: New York Bridal Fashion Week and can be seen here michael kors new release (http://www.michaelkorssales.com/michael-kors-new-release-c-4.html). "Project Runway" winner Chloe Dao has also created bridal collections in the past.
"Project Runway: All Star" April Johnston was recently married in a black lace gown of her own design. The look was so popular among fans it caused many to ask if the designer would be adding a wedding collection to her popular Mangled Courtesan fashion line.
Even Michael Kors, one of the show's judges, had been bitten by the bridal bug. While he is better known for his red carpet looks and his more affordable Michael by Michael Kors line the legendary fashion designer has had bridal collections in the past. Fellow "Project Runway" judge Nina Garcia caused a stir recently when she suggested that Angelina Jolie might pick a custom Michael Kors wedding dress for her walk down the aisle with longtime boyfriend Brad Pitt michael kors wallets (http://www.michaelkorssales.com/michael-kors-wallets-c-8.html).
The long relationship "Project Runway" designers have had with bridal design is ironic considering that designers aren't allowed to show bridal designs during the application process to get on the show. Casting directors often warn "Project Runway" hopefuls that it's okay to show white dresses as long as they aren't wedding gowns but not to show wedding gowns themselves. Surprisingly the show has seen a few wedding themed challenges over the years, everything from designing a wedding dress to revamping a bridesmaid gown. In a further twist of irony several "Project Runway" alumni designed looks for Kate Middleton's royal wedding. The gowns created as part of the promotion were auctioned off for charity and can be seen here michael kors handbags (michaelkorshandbagsoutlets.com).
